Pleasant Alexander Stovall (1857-1935) was born in Augusta, Georgia. He attended a private boy's school in Augusta, where Woodrow Wilson was a classmate. In 1885, Stovall married Mary Ganahl also of Augusta. They moved to Savannah in 1891 where Stovall and David Robinson established the Savannah Press. Stovall represented Chatham County in the Georgia General Assembly from 1902 until 1906 and again 1912-1913. Emory Speer was a representative from Georgia. He was born in Culloden, Monroe County, Ga., September 3, 1848. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1869, entered the Confederate Army as a volunteer in the Fifth Kentucky Regiment, Lewis Brigade. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1869 and practiced law in Athens, Georgia. He was the solicitor general from 1873-1876 and later became the dean of Mercer Law School.
